DUMB AND DUMBER (No. 24)
K-12 EDITION
THE PROBLEM OF OUR TIME SUMMED UP IN ONE SENTENCE:
"I don't think parents should be telling schools what they should teach."
As we all know now, Terry McAuliffe uttered these infamous words last Fall, which basically killed his campaign for Governor of Virginia. McAuliffe’s comment launched a national debate over the role of parents in the education of their children.
What follows is a pictorial essay on how the defenders of the Education Establishment see the issue.
It turns out that McAuliffe’s faux pas was really only an expression of what the Education Ruling Class really thinks.
Never forget (see point 5 under “Color Group Collectivism”):
THIS LAST HEADLINE, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, IS THE LOGICAL END POINT OF THE EDUCATION ESTABLISHMENT.
BUT HERE IS THE ANTIDOTE. Check out website that is leading the #JustWalkAway Movement. Go to EdWatchDaily.com.
THE RULING CLASS DOESN’T LIVE BY THE RULES THAT IT MAKES FOR YOU: “Anti-School Choice Terry McAuliffe's Wife Chaired Trustee Board at Kids' Private School.”
ANOTHER BIG WIN FOR HOMESCHOOLING AND PRIVATE SCHOOLS. It’s as if the Education Establishment want parents to pull their kids from the government schools: “San Diego Unified School District votes to mandate vaccines for students.”
IT’S HAPPENING--#JustWalkAway: “LA school district enrollment drops by 27,000 students amid COVID vaccine mandates for teachers, kids over 12.”
GLENN H. REYNOLDS aka INSTAPUNDIT: “Flawed COVID mandates are speeding up the flight out of public schools.”
IF YOU GET TO THIS POINT, I’M PRETTY SURE IT’S TIME TO PACK IT IN: “California parents request judge block public schools from asking students to pray to Aztec gods.”
KAROL MARKOWICZ: “Parents fight school mask mandates for kids – just follow the science, they plead.”
EVEN ESTABLISHMENT LIBERTARIANS DON’T GET IT. THERE IS ONE AND ONLY ONE SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM AND IT’S NOT BANNING LEGISLATIVELY BAD IDEAS. The only proper solution is to #JustWalkAway: “'Equity,' 'Multiculturalism,' and 'Racial Prejudice' Among Concepts That Could Be Banned in Schools by Wisconsin Bill.”
NO COMMENT: DO NOT WATCH THE EMBEDDED VIDEO IF YOU CAN’T LIVE WITH IMAGES THAT YOU CAN’T UNSEE. “Conservative commentator accuses Loudoun County school board of being 'child abusers'.”
HOMESCHOOL EDITION
BOOM: “Homeschooling doubles across America!”
"The Bellwether Education Partners, a non-profit education advocacy group, reported similar findings in its August 2021 overlook, noting that close to 2.6 million children have transitioned from public schooling to homeschooling since the start of the pandemic," the report said.
"The percentage of homeschooling children also spreads across different ethnicities. The group found that 9.7 percent of white families, 12.1 percent of Hispanic families, 8.8 percent of Asian families, and 16.1 percent of Black families have pulled their children out of public schools to homeschool them," the report said. . . .
Figures from 2021 from the Census Bureau show homeschooling rates for black families peaked at 16.1%, for Hispanics at 12.1% and for other races at 11.6%.
In Alaska, homeschooling surged by 18%, to 27.5%, and it was in double digits in a majority of the states, with Oklahoma at 20.1%, Florida at 18.1%, and Vermont at 16.9%.
In the Riverside metro area in California, the rate was 19.2%, while in Detroit and Phoenix both it was in the 15% range.
HIGHER ED EDITION
VANDALS AT THE GATES: “The paintings we’ve lost to campus cancel culture.”
Since 2013, at least 37 paintings, portraits, pictures, murals or art displays at universities across the nation have either been removed, covered, been the target of censorship demands, or had additional “context” added, to appease campus activists, almost all of whom are politically progressive.
SERIOUSLY, THIS IS NOT ROCKET SCIENCE: “Harvard professor cites studies to highlight 'perverse consequence of trigger warnings'.”
LIKE I’VE SAID MANY TIMES BEFORE, I’M NOT A PSYCHIATRIST: “Stanford students are more likely to wear masks on bicycles than helmets.”
NOT THE ONLY FAKE THING AT YALE: “Yale University confirms its controversial Vinland Map is a fake.”
SYSTEMIC RACISM: “Penn State to work with schools to 'reimagine' K-12 around 'anti-racism' and 'social justice.”
RACISM ALERT—Bates Edition: “Bates College considers requiring ALL students to take courses on ‘white supremacy,' ‘power and privilege,' 'colonialism'.”
A curricular working group of students and faculty at Bates College is recommending that all students should be required to take two courses that center around “race, white supremacy and colonialism, and intersecting experiences of power and privilege.”
To justify the recommendation, the working group asserts that an “essential part of liberal arts education” is to “critically discern, examine, and discuss the production and operation of difference, power, and equity.”
Professor of English and Africana and member of the working group Theri Pickens told Campus Reform that “each of the faculty on the committee discussed and described the impacts that not studying race, power, privilege, white supremacy and colonialism has on their students. We agreed that students may find themselves ill-equipped for an increasingly globalized society.”. . .
Approved courses include “Introduction to Gender and Sexuality Studies,” “Privilege, Power, and Inequality,” “Feminist Philosophy,” and “Mathematics for Social Justice.”
Well, that’s a wrap for this week. Enjoy your weekend. I’ll be back on Tuesday with, yes, the LAST essay in my 10-part series on education and rights.
